Summer Wellness Project
In my mind, the official first day of summer is June 1st. Plus, the way I see it, the start of any new month is a chance to turn things around. I've had a rough month of May, so I looked at yesterday as a fresh start and decided to come up with some goals for myself - a little wellness project, if you will. Over the next three months, I'm really going to try and focus on bettering myself, in both mind and body.
Body
To start, I want to get back on track with my physical fitness. I found this one-month workout plan on PopSugar that I'm adapting for myself. Granted, this particular one is for the month of January, but it can just as easily apply for any month if you tweak it a bit. I'm getting married in 6 months (the big day is November 21st!), so I'm trying to really crack down and get myself into shape. However, my fiance Ed and I are also extremely busy on weekends, so I realize I have to be a little lenient with myself on accomplishing every goal for every day of the month.
Also, I'm going to focus on improving my diet. The foods that I currently eat aren't necessarily horrible, but I could definitely benefit from eating more clean foods and cooking dinner more often.
To accomplish my body goals, I've downloaded this app called My Fitness Pal, which also happens to be a handy website. With this platform, you can log exercise every day, as well as keep a food diary to make sure you're creating a calorie deficit in an effort to lose weight. It's only been two days, but I'm already noticing that holding myself accountable is motivating for me.
Mind
Mentally, I've been in a bit of a funk in the past few months. I recently started a new job, and the transition has been a difficult one for me on a number of levels.
The other phase of my wellness project is to be kinder to myself and others. I've noticed that small acts of kindness, like holding the door for someone on your way to work in the morning, even when you're rushing, actually makes a big difference in cultivating and sustaining a positive attitude.
Another small aspect of trying to keep a positive attitude is focusing on what I have and what I love. That's another reason why I've started up this blog again; it will give me a safe space to share the things I love. Plus, I've always loved to write, so blogging will allow me to do that again.
It seems a little daunting, looking at all of the things I mentioned above and expecting to accomplish them all. My plan is to take it one day at a time. I'm bound to slip up and make mistakes, and that's okay. Writing this all down is the first step to committing to a healthier life, and I think that's what I need most of all - the drive and motivation to do something positive for myself for a change.
