FindMePhilly

So something pretty cool happened yesterday.

For some months now, my fiance Ed and I have been following this person called FindMePhilly on Vine. This is how it works: FindMePhilly posts a 6 second video of an unspecified location somewhere in Philadelphia or the surrounding suburbs. He starts the clock at 13 minutes, and you need to figure out his location within that time frame. If you catch him before time is up, you can win $100.

Often times, we have been unable to figure out his location, or if we did figure it out, we were too far away to make it there in 13 minutes.

Last night, though, our luck finally changed. This was the Vine that FindMePhilly posted:

Ed showed me the Vine, and together we figured out that he was on Kelly Drive, which is very close to where we live. After some coaxing, Ed got me to put my shoes on. The next thing I knew, we were driving to find the elusive FindMePhilly.

I kept refreshing the Vine video, checking the time we had left. With only about 2 1/2 minutes to spare, I caught a glimpse of the green-lit bridge on Kelly Drive. As soon as I saw it, I shouted "there it is!" Almost immediately, Ed pulled over and parked, illegally, on the grass on the side of Kelly Drive, which is an extremely busy road. Probably not our smartest idea, but we had $100 to win.

I began running toward a person who was standing under the bridge. I yelled to him "Hey Vine person!" but I didn't get a response. As I got closer, I shouted again, "are you FindMePhilly?" At first he said, "What's that?", to which I replied with an expletive, and began frantically searching around for someone, anyone else. A few seconds later, he said "nah I'm just kidding - it's me!"

I couldn't believe it, but we had finally won. FindMePhilly handed me the $100 bill, and I jumped for joy (literally, I jumped in the air). FindMePhilly then explained how he really wants his project to take off and go viral. He talked to me about how he wants companies to collaborate with him on his endeavor, so he can start paying people even more money to find him in Philly. He encouraged me to spread the word across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, which I did.

For a few minutes, Ed and I felt a little bit like local celebrities. It was a cool feeling, not just to get $100, but winning FindMePhilly's game, just for one night.

I also wanted to write on here about my experience, because it was so unique and fun. After we got home last night, Ed and I couldn't stop smiling and laughing. That rush of adventure sparked our excitement, and it felt good to win one, which is what FindMePhilly's mission is all about. Philly.com did an article on him back in February (you can find it here) where in that interview, he talked about how he wants to create more positivity in our city. I am in full support of this mission, and was glad to be a part of it last night, if only for a few moments. I hope FindMePhilly continues his mission for years to come, and I hope he does go viral and continues to spread happiness across our city. And maybe, just maybe, we'll win another one somewhere down the line...
