Comic Book Superhero Movies

Superhero movies have become a huge enterprise. Ever since 1999, when Marvel put out the X-Men movie and started a major franchise - it seems like every year, a new comic book hero's story is being told on the big screen. Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Batman Trilogy took things to another level, and now the demand for comic book movies is so high, there are almost too many to keep track.

Some might find these movies tiresome; after all, how many different times and ways can Batman's story be told? But there is something about the way Marvel and DC Comics are telling these stories, something about the writing, the acting, and the production value that makes these movies so compelling.

People are fascinated by superhero stories, because these heroes have what we don't: extraordinary powers like telepathy, the ability to fly, and of course, the capacity to travel to universes other than our own. Also, they can kick some major ass. Superhero movies are escapism at its finest. We can forget about the harsh realities of real life for two hours and fantasize about what life could be like, if only we weren't human.

Superhero movies also explore plenty of philosophical themes; mainly, and most simply, the battle between good and evil. While these lines constantly blur, at their core, superheroes like Batman, Superman, and the X-Men are fighting for good to prevail. That concept is something that anyone can get behind, and watching it all play out before our eyes in a dazzling display makes the ride worthwhile, from start to finish.

Below are a few trailers for the superhero movies I'm most excited for, coming out in 2016.

Superman Vs. Batman: Dawn of Justice

Suicide Squad

Sadly, the trailer for X-Men Apocalypse has not yet been released, but I will be sure to post it on here when that time comes.
